Stop The Pain! Great Self-Care Tips For Osteoarthritis (OA)

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis. The cartilage that provides a buffer between bones breaks down and wears away, allowing the bones to rub and grind against each other.

This degenerative disease can be treated if you use conventional medicine and change your lifestyle. Medications can ease the pain, but I don’t want to think about those side effects. Home remedies, on the other hand, along with lifestyle changes are the perfect way in keeping this disease under control.

1. Hot and cold compresses
Every bone pain you experience can be relieved by combining hot and cold compresses. So, use an ice pack and a heat pack by applying them on the painful area. Keep each pack for 10 minutes and then change. Proceed this way for 40 minutes.

2. Epsom salt bath
This is the best magnesium source you need to strengthen you bone structure. Take at least 1 hot bath per week where you’ve added 500 gr of Epsom salt to reduce inflammation and swelling. And if you stay 30 minutes in the tub, the pain is definitely gone!

3. Capsaicin cream and other tropical ointments
Apply these creams directly to the affected joints to numb the area. The pain will be gone for the moment. Preferably to apply this remedy if the pain wakes you up in the middle of the night.

4. Assistive devices
Various types of such devices can help you a lot in relieving the pain without needing medication. And you have plenty of such devices you can try, such as: braces, canes, grabbing or gripping tools, knee taping (be sure to have your doctor or physical therapist show you first), and shoe inserts.

5. Turmeric
Curcumin is the active compound in turmeric. It’s is part of the ginger family, but may help OA in different ways. It will help reduce pain and stiffness during an OA flare-up.
You can prepare the following recipe at home to reduce OA pain:

Turmeric Milk

Drinking this combination of turmeric and milk can deliver amazing results in reducing joint pain and inflammation. A glass of warm turmeric milk can also relieve stress and help you feel more relaxed. It is also easy to prepare.

Put one teaspoon of turmeric powder in a glass of organic milk, or your choice of non-dairy milk such as coconut milk or cashew milk. Add ½ teaspoon of honey and stir well. Drink one glass of turmeric milk every day to get the best results.
